Footwear Modifications
Rocker Bottom Sole

Rocker bottom soles aid in ambulation using various types of rocker bottoms. A modified sole apexed at various positions to assist the gait cycle and relieve or transfer pressure from the designated areas of the foot and ankle.

Heel to Toe Rocker:

  • Dissipates floor reaction at heel strike
  • Replaces lost motion at ankle and limits midfoot motion at midstance
  • Increases propulsion at toe off

Toe Rocker:

  • Provides stable amount of midstance and unloads the fore foot
  • Reduces amount of shock at toe off
  • Minimizes first ray dorsiflexion

Flares: Medial & Lateral

Medial and Lateral Flares aid in foot and biomechanical disorders such as:

  • Varus or Valgus feet
  • Added support and stability
  • Genu varum and Genu valgum and other gait related problems

Buttress
  • Designed to provide additional external support, for excessive pronation or supination disorders.
  • Increase base of support for recurrent ankle instability

Lift Therapy
  • Lift Therapy is used mainly for leg length discrepancies, Equinus feet and Achilles Tendonitis.

Resoling & Heel Repairs
  • Resoling and heel repairs are made when someone has worn out the existing sole or heel.

Addition of Velcro Straps
  • The addition of Velcro straps is done when a length of a strap is not long enough or where a specific problem arises where the patient would need an extra fastening device.
